Terms of use
LicenseOfRecord republishes records from state licensing boards’ published files. The records are dated republications: they state what a board’s file contained on its file date, and they are not a substitute for the board’s own live lookup, which every record page links.
Permitted use
Records here may be read and cited for informational purposes — checking a contractor’s license record before hiring is the use this site exists for. Attribution to the source board and the file date should travel with any republication of a record’s contents.
Eligibility decisions — prohibited
These records may not be used to determine a person’s eligibility for employment, credit, insurance, housing, or any other purpose covered by the Fair Credit Reporting Act. LicenseOfRecord is not a consumer reporting agency, and its records are not consumer reports. Boards’ files can lag, abbreviate, and err; an eligibility decision needs the board’s live record and the process the law requires.
Accuracy and corrections
Records are republished as the boards publish them, under the rules on the methodology page. Errors reported through the corrections channel are acknowledged within one business day and resolved or answered within two.
