California contractor license records

These records republish the CSLB's License Master file: the board's current license file. It lists licenses whose term has not expired as of the file date. A license that lapses or is removed leaves the file, so this directory holds current-file licenses — including licenses the file records as suspended, shown with their recorded status.

What the credential is

California runs one statewide licensing system for contractors, administered by the CSLB. The credential on this page is a license. The classifications listed on the record — the A and B general classes and the C specialty classes — are the trades the license covers; a contractor may only contract work inside its classifications.

CSLB states the file is updated daily, and the portal copy carries a dated as-of stamp. This site republishes dated snapshots of it.

Suspended is a status in the file, not a removal from it

CSLB's current file keeps suspended licenses listed with their suspension status recorded — bond suspensions, workers' comp suspensions, judgment suspensions, and others, in the board's own abbreviated words. Read the status line on the record: a suspended license is not a current license.

The board's abbreviations are printed as recorded

Status words (CLEAR, Contr Bond Susp) and classification codes (B, C-10) appear exactly as CSLB records them. Where CSLB publishes a plain-language name for a classification, it is printed beside the code. Codes are never expanded from guesswork.

What if there is no record?

A name or number missing from these pages is missing from the CSLB's current License Master file, dated November 3, 2026. That is all absence means here. A business may hold a license under a different number, a different form of its name, or a license that has since left the current file.

To check the board’s live records, use CSLB License Check. If the board’s file should contain a record that is missing here, tell us — corrections are answered within two business days.
